Diana Ellis, DDS

Dental Director

Dr. Ellis grew up in southeastern Lower Michigan.  A dedicated Wolverine, she attended the University of Michigan as an undergraduate and went on to graduate from the University’s School of Dentistry.  After over a decade of living and practicing throughout the State, she returned home to settle in her hometown of Ann Arbor with her husband and 3 children.

Dr. Ellis’ interest and passion to pursue a career in public health dentistry was sparked when, as a fourth year dental student, she was able to provide treatment in a safety net community clinic – the Marquette County Health Department Dental Clinic.  Shortly after completing her education, she returned to the U.P. to practice in Marquette with the National Health Service Corp. before joining Michigan Community Dental Clinics (MCDC) in 2007.

As a staff member with the early MCDC, Dr. Ellis honed her clinical skills and developed extensive experience in oral surgery, pediatric dentistry, and hospital dentistry maintaining privileges at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.  During this time she directly witnessed deeply the disparities in oral health in underserved communities throughout the state of Michigan.

Her desire to make an even greater impact led her to pursue clinical leadership positions.  She served as the Director of the Community Dental Center in Ann Arbor, and then advanced her administrative skills as the Dental Director for the Center for Family Health, a FQHC in Jackson.  These diverse settings incorporated the clinical education of predoctoral dental students from the University of Michigan and Dental Residents from the New York University Langone School of Dental Medicine

Dr. Ellis brings to MCDC a wealth of clinical and administrative experience that will enhance our organization immensely.  She has dedicated her career to serving in public health settings through patient advocacy, mentorship, and building partnerships that advance dental safety net programs.  Her passion to work in team-oriented environments focused on the underserved is what has brought her back to MCDC.  Dr. Ellis’ mission is our mission!
