Dental Hygienist: What to Expect as You Begin Your Dental Career

At My Community Dental Centers (MCDC), we believe that a strong start leads to long-term success. That’s why our onboarding program for a dental hygienist is designed to provide not just training but lasting support, mentorship, and a welcoming environment to grow your dental career.

Our Comprehensive Onboarding Program

Your onboarding experience is our top priority when welcoming you to MCDC. New team members begin with a comprehensive 2–3 week onboarding program led by our Senior Hygiene Trainers and Regional Hygiene Managers. During this time, we focus on clinical protocols, patient care standards, and getting you comfortable with the workflow to make the best of your dental career while you’re on our team.

Our structured ramp-up program ensures that both new graduates and experienced hygienists have time to adjust. For new grads, we offer up to seven months before transitioning to a full patient load, based on individual skill levels and personal goals. For an experienced dental hygienist, this timeline is flexible and personalized based on performance and comfort level. With access to the latest tools and technology, including electronic patient records, digital radiography, and state-of-the-art equipment, you will be set up for success daily.

Ongoing Dental Career Support and Mentorship

But the support doesn’t end after onboarding. Our regional hygiene managers continue to provide guidance and mentorship throughout your journey at MCDC to ensure you feel confident and supported every step of the way. From your first weeks and well into your dental career, you’ll receive hands-on guidance in areas such as:

  • Clinical and procedural coaching to help hygienists refine techniques, stay current with best practices, and feel confident with every patient interaction.
  • Training on new technologies and equipment, so you’re always prepared when tools or workflows are updated.
  • Education on administrative tasks, including billing, insurance processes, and documentation — helping you navigate the “non-clinical” parts of the role with ease.
  • Time and schedule management support, with real-time coaching to help hygienists balance efficiency and patient care.
  • Problem-solving and advocacy, with your manager acting as a trusted resource to help you resolve challenges and grow professionally.

And our ongoing support doesn’t stop with our Regional Hygiene Managers. MCDC reimburses hygienists for CE Credits, CPR certification, license renewal, and uniforms, while also offering paid holidays and time off as an investment in your dental career. We are committed to a culture of open communication, collaboration, and continued learning, ensuring that all hygienists feel confident and connected.
